Licensing Your Dog In Pennsylvania: Fees and Requirements

In the state of Pennsylvania, every owner of a dog three months of age and older must license their pet by January 1st of each year. It is the law. Any dog owner found in violation of this law will be cited up to $300 per violation, plus court costs. The Keystone State offers two types of pet licenses: a renewable license and a lifetime license. To obtain a lifetime dog license in Pennsylvania, you need to complete the lifetime application form and the permanent identification form and submit both to your County treasurer.

Pennsylvania pet ownership laws do not require cats to be licensed like dogs. However, all cats 12 weeks of age living in Pennsylvania must be vaccinated against Rabies.

You can obtain a Pennsylvania dog license online, by mail or at the Treasurer's Office, depending on the county or city in which you live. By registering your dog, you are technically helping millions of dogs in the state as the small license fee goes to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement. In addition, dog licenses help in returning lost dogs to their owners. That said, let's dog licensing laws, requirements and fees in all Pennsylvania counties.
